High Achievers
Our aim at Â鶹ÊÓƵis to support all of our students so they can achieve their best. At Â鶹ÊÓƵBirmingham there is no glass ceiling and we aim to ensure that students can reach out beyond the limits of their prior attainment.
Students can be expected to be stretched and challenged in individual subject specialisms and their talents nurtured.
We offer special dental, medical and Oxbridge preparation and have a strong track record in helping students gain entry on to competitive courses.
Those students who join us with special talents and are considered gifted and talented will be given every opportunity to stretch their intellectual, artistic, technical and social abilities.
Those who have talents in sport, music or public speaking can be involved in our extracurricular programme, details of which are discussed at interview.

Lok Yan Wu won the Outstanding Academic Achievement Award and the Nikul Patel Memorial Prize for Mathematics. Lok Yan joined Â鶹ÊÓƵfrom Hong Kong for our two-year A level course in Chemistry, Mathematics, Biology and Physics. She achieved grades A*A*AA and won a place to read Medicine at Queen’s University, Belfast.
Afia Malik won the Principal’s Award for outstanding contribution to college life. Afia joined Â鶹ÊÓƵfrom Edgbaston High School for Girls to complete the second year of her A level course in Biology, Chemistry and English Language and Literature. She achieved grades A*AA* and won a place to read Medicine at King’s College London.
Ibraheem Abedin won the Â鶹ÊÓƵMedical Sciences Award. Ibraheem joined Â鶹ÊÓƵfrom King Edward’s School for our two-year A level course in Biology, Chemistry and Mathematics. He achieved grades AAA and won a place to read Medicine at Queen’s University, Belfast.
Saif Mukadam won the Â鶹ÊÓƵDentistry Award. Saif joined Â鶹ÊÓƵhaving completed his GCSEs at King Edward’s School and a football apprenticeship at Walsall FC for our two-year course in Biology, Chemistry and Psychology. He achieved grades AA*A* and won a place to read Dentistry at King’s College London.
Leo Kane won the Isobel Cater Memorial Award for History. Leo joined Â鶹ÊÓƵfrom The Priory School for our two-year A level course in History, Politics and English Language and Literature. He achieved grades AAB and won a place to read History at the University of Warwick.
Long Kwan Law (Terence) won the Â鶹ÊÓƵScience Award. Terence joined Â鶹ÊÓƵfrom Westminster School in Australia for our two-year A level course in Chemistry, Biology and Mathematics. He achieved grades A*AA and won a place to read Nursing at the University of Exeter.
Layla Ahmed and Simran Basi shared the Â鶹ÊÓƵAward for the best overall performance by an A level retake student. Layla joined Â鶹ÊÓƵfrom Waverley School, where she had achieved grades BBC in Biology, Chemistry and Mathematics. She retook all three subjects over one year and achieved grades AAA. Layla won a place to read Medicine at the University of Sheffield. Simran joined Â鶹ÊÓƵfrom Sutton College, where she had achieved grades DU in Media Studies and Business. At Â鶹ÊÓƵshe retook Media Studies and A level Business as a new subject over one year. Simran achieved grades BB and won a place to read Accounting and Finance at the University of Leicester.
Mei Ching Chan (Rosalie) won the NCUK Award. Rosalie joined Â鶹ÊÓƵfrom Hong Kong to complete a one-year NCUK Foundation Business Pathway course. She achieved grades A*A*A*A in Business, Economics, Sociology and English and won a place to read Patisserie at University College Birmingham.
Minchae Kim and Maya Almasri shared the Lower Sixth Award.Ìý Minchae joined Â鶹ÊÓƵfrom our sister college in Cambridge to take two-year A level course in Biology, Chemistry and Mathematics, achieving A*A*A* in her end of year examinations. Maya joined Â鶹ÊÓƵfrom Alcester Grammar School for our two-year A level course in Biology, Chemistry and Economics, achieving A*A*A* in her end of year examinations.
Chun Nok Chin (Anson) won the Â鶹ÊÓƵGCSE Award for the best performance by a GCSE student. Anson joined Â鶹ÊÓƵfrom Hong Kong for our eighteen-month course in Biology, Chemistry, Chinese, Computer Science, English Language, Mathematics, Physics and Religious Studies. Anson achieved grades 9,9,9,8,5,9,9,8 and is now studying for his A levels at Tudor Grange Academy, Solihull.

Nok Yin (Alvin) ChiuÌýwon the Outstanding Academic Achievement Award. Alvin joined Â鶹ÊÓƵfrom Hong Kong for our two-year A level course in Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics and Physics. He achieved grades A*A*A*A*, meeting his conditional offer from the University of Cambridge to read Medicine. Alvin decided instead to pursue his university studies in Hong Kong.
Hoi Ching (Tracy) LeungÌýwon the Principal’s Award for outstanding contribution to college life. Tracy joined Â鶹ÊÓƵfrom Hong Kong for our two-year A level course in Accounting, Chinese, Economics, Mathematics and Further Mathematics. She achieved grades AA*AA*A* and won a place to read Economics at the University of Warwick.
Suresh SanjayÌýwon the Â鶹ÊÓƵMedical Sciences Award. Suresh joined Â鶹ÊÓƵfrom King Edward VI Camp Hill School for Boys, where he had achieved ABC in Religious Studies, Biology and Chemistry. He retook Biology and Chemistry over one year, achieving grades A*A and won a place to read Medicine at the University of Liverpool.
Kian Moore won the Â鶹ÊÓƵDentistry Award. Kian joined Â鶹ÊÓƵfrom Solihull School for our two-year A level course in Biology, Business and Chemistry. He achieved grades AAA and won a place to read Dentistry at the University of Valencia.
Amanda AbbaÌýwon the Isobel Cater Memorial Award for History. Amanda joined Â鶹ÊÓƵfrom Nigeria for our two-year A level course in English Literature, History and Politics. She achieved grades ABA* and won a place to read Politics and International Relations at Queen Mary University of London.
Aisha Abbas JegaÌýwon the Â鶹ÊÓƵScience Award. Aisha joined Â鶹ÊÓƵfrom Nigeria for our two-year A level course in Biology, Chemistry and Physics. She achieved grades A*AA and won a place to read Medicine at the University of Uskudar in Istanbul, Turkey.
Kane Endley won the Â鶹ÊÓƵA level Retake Award. Kane joined Â鶹ÊÓƵfrom Arden School, where he had obtained grades DDD in Biology, Chemistry and Mathematics. He retook all three subjects over one year and achieved grades BBA. Kane won a place to read Bio-veterinary Science at the University of Liverpool.
Finbar (Fin) CowanÌýwon the Nikul Patel Memorial Prize for Mathematics. Fin joined Â鶹ÊÓƵfrom Bristol Grammar School, where he had obtained grades DDE in Physics, Mathematics and Computer Science. He retook Mathematics and Physics alongside Further Mathematics as a new subject over one year and achieved grades A*AA. Fin won a place to read Mathematics at the University of Manchester.
Noemie Menedou DjongoÌýwon the NCUK Award. Noemie joined Â鶹ÊÓƵfrom the American School of Douala, Cameroon to study on this nationally accredited university foundation programme. She achieved grades A*A*A*A* in the final examinations and won a place to read Medicine at the University of Central Lancashire.
Jasmine OberheimÌýwon the Lower Sixth Prize. Jasmine joined Â鶹ÊÓƵfrom Twycross House School for our two-year A level course in Biology, History and Religious Studies. She achieved outstanding scores in all her subjects in the end of year internal examinations.
Varvara (Barbara) SokolÌýwon the EPQ (Extended Project Qualification) Award. Barbara joined Â鶹ÊÓƵfrom Columbia International College in Canada for our two-year A level course in History, Mathematics and Politics. At the end of the lower-sixth year she completed an EPQ on the role of political elites in different countries for which she achieved an A* grade.
Hsuan-Chu (Sharon) Liao won the GCSE Award. Sharon joined Â鶹ÊÓƵfrom Taiwan for our one-year GCSE course. She achieved grades 9,9,9,9,8,8 and is now taking A levels at d’Overbroeck’s College in Oxford.

Isobel joined Â鶹ÊÓƵfrom Kings Norton Girls’ School for our two-year A level course in Politics, Sociology and Spanish. She achieved grades A*A*A* and won a place to read International Relations with Spanish at the University of Birmingham.

Lwai AlmasriÌýwon the Dentistry Award. Lwai joined Â鶹ÊÓƵfrom Warwick School for our two-year GCSE course. He went on to take a two-year A level course in Biology, Chemistry and Economics, achieving grades A*AA*. Lwai won a place to read Dentistry at King’s College London.
Yurika Morii won the Isobel Cater Memorial Award for History. Yurika joined Â鶹ÊÓƵfrom Japan for our two-year A level course in History, Politics and Sociology. She achieved grades AA*A* and won a place to read International Relations at Durham University.
William HurstÌýwon the Â鶹ÊÓƵScience Award. William joined Â鶹ÊÓƵfrom Shrewsbury School, where he had obtained grades DC in Chemistry and Mathematics and P1 in Pre-U Physics. He retook all three subjects over one year and achieved grades A*AA*. William won a place to read General Engineering at Durham University.
Jonathan (Jono) HubbardÌýwon the Â鶹ÊÓƵPrize for the best performance by a one-year A level student. Jono joined Â鶹ÊÓƵfrom King Edward VI Five Ways School, where he had obtained grades CCC in Biology, Chemistry and Mathematics. He retook all three subjects over a year and achieved grades A*A*A*. Jono won a place to read Economics at the University of Leeds.
Eesa KhanÌýwon the Â鶹ÊÓƵPrize for the best performance by a two-year A level student. Eesa joined Â鶹ÊÓƵfrom Hamd House School for our two-year A level course in Business, English Language and Literature and Law. She achieved grades A*A*A* and won a place to read English at University College London.
Sita-May Cavey-WilcoxÌýwon the Gary Durrant Creativity Award. Sita-May joined Â鶹ÊÓƵfrom Edgbaston High School for Girls for our two-year A level course in Art, English Literature and History. She achieved grades A*BA and won a place to read Law at Cardiff University.
Meera RamÌýwon the Nikul Patel Mathematics Memorial Prize. Meera joined Â鶹ÊÓƵfrom Haberdasher’s Adams Grammar School, where she had obtained grades ABU in Biology, Mathematics and Further Mathematics. She retook Mathematics and Further Mathematics over one year, achieving grades A*A* and won a place to read Economics and Mathematics at the University of Edinburgh.
Mfonobong EtimÌýwon the NCUK Award. Mfonobong joined Â鶹ÊÓƵfrom Nigeria to study on this nationally accredited university foundation programme. He achieved grades A*A*A*A* in the final examinations and won a place to read Marketing at Aston University.
Hoi Ching Tracy LeungÌýwon the Lower Sixth Prize and the Â鶹ÊÓƵExtended Project Qualification (EPQ) Award. Tracy joined Â鶹ÊÓƵfrom Hong Kong to take our two-year A level course in Accounting, Economics, Mathematics and Further Mathematics achieving grades A*A*A*A* in her first-year examinations. She also completed an EPQ for which she also gained an A* grade.

James Hollis won the Â鶹ÊÓƵVeterinary Science Award. James joined Â鶹ÊÓƵfrom Bromsgrove School, where he achieved grades AAB in Geography, Mathematics and Physics. He took Biology and Chemistry as new subjects over one year, achieving grades AA and won a place to read Veterinary Medicine at the University of Nottingham.

He retook Economics and History and Business as a new subject over one year, achieving grades AAA*. Rowan won a place to read Philosophy, Politics and Economics at the University of Warwick.
Peter Murphy won the Â鶹ÊÓƵScience Award. Peter joined Â鶹ÊÓƵfrom King Edward’s School for our two-year A level course in Biology, Chemistry and Mathematics. Peter achieved grades A*A*A* and won a place to read Chemistry at Imperial College London.
Pratham Bhat won the Â鶹ÊÓƵOne-Year A level Award. Pratham joined Â鶹ÊÓƵfrom King Edward VI Aston School, where he achieved grades CDD in Economics, Physics and Mathematics. He retook Economics and Mathematics and Business as a new subject over one year, achieving grades A*AA. Pratham won a place to read Accounting and Finance at the University of Warwick.
Wonjun Kang won the Â鶹ÊÓƵTwo-Year A level Award. Wonjun joined Â鶹ÊÓƵfrom South Korea for our two-year A level course in Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics and Physics. He achieved grades A*A*A*A* and is currently applying to universities for a place to read Medicine.

Darren Taizar won the NCUK Award. Darren joined Â鶹ÊÓƵfrom Indonesia to study on this nationally accredited university foundation programme. He achieved grades A*A*A*A in Business, Economics, Mathematics and English and won a place to read Economics and Management at King’s College London.
Milen Purewal won the Â鶹ÊÓƵExtended Project Qualification (EPQ) Award. Milen joined Â鶹ÊÓƵfrom Queen Mary’s Grammar School, where she achieved grades ABD in Art, Mathematics and Biology. Milen retook Biology and also completed an EPQ from scratch over a year. She achieved grades AA* and won a place to read Architecture at University College London.
Liliana Braich won the Â鶹ÊÓƵLower Sixth Award. Lilly joined Â鶹ÊÓƵfrom King Edward VI Handsworth School for our two-year A level course in Accounts, Business and English Language. She consistently achieved excellent scores throughout the lower-sixth year and on the strength of these is applying to read Law at the University of Birmingham.

Amrita ChanaÌýwon the NCUK Award. Amrita joined Â鶹ÊÓƵfrom Kenya to study on this nationally accredited university foundation programme. Amrita achieved grades A*A*A*A* in the final examinations and won a place at the University of Leeds to read Architectural Engineering.

Retaking the same subjects at MPW, she achieved grades A*AB and won a place to read Accounting and Finance at the University of Birmingham.
Pranay RupareliaÌýwon the Â鶹ÊÓƵMedicine award. Pranay transferred to Â鶹ÊÓƵafter completing his A levels at Caterham School, where he had obtained grades BCB in Biology, Chemistry and Mathematics. At Â鶹ÊÓƵhe retook these subjects over one year, achieving grades A*A*A and winning a place to read Medicine at King’s College, London.
Yusra KhanÌýwon the Dentistry award. Yusra transferred to Â鶹ÊÓƵafter completing her A levels at Queen Mary’s Grammar School where she had obtained grades BBC in Biology, Chemistry and Geography. At Â鶹ÊÓƵshe studied a one-year A level programme in Biology and Chemistry and a January to June A level course in Geography. She gained grades AAB and won a place to read Dentistry at the University of Leeds.
Olivia Mcdonald-MeyerÌýwon the Veterinary award. Olivia transferred to Â鶹ÊÓƵafter her first year at Queen Ethelburga’s Collegiate, where she had obtained grades BCC in AS level Mathematics, Biology and Chemistry. Completing the full A levels in these subjects at Â鶹ÊÓƵover one year, she gained grades AAA and won a place to read Veterinary Science at the University of Liverpool.

She retook these subjects at Â鶹ÊÓƵover one year, gaining grades AAA and winning a place to read Economics at the University of Manchester.
Ala BashirÌýandÌýBinita PatelÌýshared the Â鶹ÊÓƵScience award. Ala joined Â鶹ÊÓƵfrom King Edward VI Camp Hill School for Boys, where he had obtained grades BBB in A level Chemistry, Mathematics and Biology. At Â鶹ÊÓƵhe retook these subjects over a combination of one-year and January to June courses, achieving grades A*A*A and winning a place to read Medicine at King’s College, London. Binita joined Â鶹ÊÓƵfrom King Edward VI Handsworth School, where she had obtained A level grades CCD in Biology, Chemistry and Mathematics. At Â鶹ÊÓƵshe retook these subjects over one year, achieving grades AAA and winning a place to read Optometry at Aston University.
Joe LambÌýwon the Value-Added award. He joined Â鶹ÊÓƵafter achieving GCSE grades AAAAABBCCC at Bromsgrove School. At Â鶹ÊÓƵhe took our two-year A level course in Geography, Business Studies and English Literature, gaining grades ABB and winning a place to read Real Estate at Nottingham Trent University.

He joined Â鶹ÊÓƵfrom Handsworth Grammar School, where he had obtained grades CCC in A level Mathematics, Biology and Chemistry. He retook these subjects over one year at MPW, achieving grades A*AA and winning a place to read Economics at the University of Bristol.
Khai NguyenÌýwon the Gary Durrant Memorial Award for Creativity. Khai joined Â鶹ÊÓƵfrom Vietnam to study on our two-year A level programme in Mathematics, Art and Digital Photography. He gained grades A*AB and won a place to read Fine Art Painting at the University of Brighton.
Seika OsafuneÌýon the Lower Sixth Award. Seika joined Â鶹ÊÓƵfrom Singapore to study on our two-year A level programme in English Literature, History and Mathematics. At the end of her first year at Â鶹ÊÓƵshe achieved grade A* in her EPQ.
Chami LeeÌýwon the Â鶹ÊÓƵGCSE award. Chami joined Â鶹ÊÓƵfrom South Korea and achieved GCSE grades A*,9,8,8,7,7 in one year. She has now joined our sixth form to study A levels in Biology, Mathematics, Psychology and Sociology.
Zainab YusoffÌýwon the NCUK Award. Zainab joined Â鶹ÊÓƵfrom Malaysia to study on this nationally accredited university foundation programme. Zainab obtained grades A*A*A and won a place to read Astrophysics at the University of Manchester.

Howard XuÌýwon the college’s Outstanding Academic Achievement award. Howard joined Â鶹ÊÓƵfrom China and completed a one-year A level programme in Chemistry, Mathematics, Further Mathematics, Additional Further Mathematics and Physics, obtaining grades A*A*A*A*A* and also gained A* in his Extended Project Qualification (EPQ). Howard won a place to read Mathematics at Jesus College, Oxford.
Chris MoranÌýwon the Principal’s Award for outstanding contribution to college life. Chris joined Â鶹ÊÓƵafter completing his GCSEs at The King’s School, Worcester. At Â鶹ÊÓƵChris started a two-year A level programme in Business Studies, Economics and Law gaining grades AAB. Chris won a place to read Accounting and Finance at the University of Birmingham.
Charlotte CookeÌýwon the Â鶹ÊÓƵMedical award. Charlotte transferred to Â鶹ÊÓƵafter completing her A levels at Haybridge High School, where she had obtained grades ABB in Spanish, Biology and Chemistry and grade B in AS Physics. At Â鶹ÊÓƵshe completed a one-year A level programme in Chemistry and Biology, achieving grades A*A and won a place to read Medicine at the University of Liverpool.
Shivali Pathak won the Dentistry award. Shivali transferred to Â鶹ÊÓƵafter completing her A levels at King Edward VI High School for Girls where she obtained grades BBC in Biology, Chemistry and Geography. At Â鶹ÊÓƵshe studied a one-year A level programme in Biology and Chemistry and a short January to June A level course in Geography. At Â鶹ÊÓƵShivali achieved grades AAA in Biology, Chemistry and Geography and won a place to read Dentistry at the University of Leeds.
Ela OluwoleÌýwon the Â鶹ÊÓƵHumanities award. Ela joined Â鶹ÊÓƵfrom Lagos, Nigeria when she was 15 years old and studied a two-year A level programme in Economics, Biology and History, gaining grades A*AA and winning a place to read Law at the London School of Economics.

At MPW, Rosemund achieved grades A*A*A*A in Chemistry, Economics, Mathematics and Biology and won a place to read Medicine at King’s College, London.
Johnny MorrisÌýwon the Â鶹ÊÓƵprize for the most improved student. He joined Â鶹ÊÓƵafter completing his A levels at the Royal Grammar School, Worcester, where he obtained grades BCC in History, Business Studies and Politics. At Â鶹ÊÓƵJohnny studied a one-year A level programme in Business Studies and Politics and a short retake course in History. At Â鶹ÊÓƵJohnny obtained grades A*AA in Business Studies, History and Politics winning a place to read Business and Management at the University of Exeter.
Jasbir Banwait won the Â鶹ÊÓƵGCSE award and joined Â鶹ÊÓƵfrom Wolverhampton Grammar School after completing Year 9 and studied a two-year GCSE programme obtaining grades A*A*A*A*AAAA, plus 7 for Maths. Jasbir then stayed on within the sixth form at Â鶹ÊÓƵwhere he is currently studying a two-year A level programme in Biology, Chemistry and Mathematics.
Sylvia Xie won the Nikul Patel memorial prize for Mathematics. She joined Â鶹ÊÓƵfrom China and completed a two-year A level programme in Mathematics, Chinese and Physics obtaining grades A*AA and also grade B in AS level Economics. She then won a place to read Accounting and Finance at the University of Warwick.
Darius Shoja-AssadiÌýwon the Riya Dandekar memorial prize for Public Speaking. Darius joined Â鶹ÊÓƵcollege after completing his A levels at Solihull School where he achieved grades AABB in Biology, Chemistry, History and Mathematics. At Â鶹ÊÓƵDarius completed a one-year A level programme in Economics gaining an A*. Darious is now reading Philosophy, Politics and Economics at the University College London.
Iretidayo ZaccheausÌýwon the NCUK Award. Iretidayo joined Â鶹ÊÓƵfrom Nigeria to join our new NCUK course. On completion of the course Iretidayo was also awarded the NCUK Award: International Foundation Year – Top Performing Student. Iretidayo is now studying Business and Economics at the University of Manchester.

Jake joined Â鶹ÊÓƵfrom the Royal Wolverhampton School and studied a two year A level programme in Mathematics, Further Mathematics, Additional Further Mathematics and Physics as well as AS Chemistry. Jake obtained grades A*A*A*A* in his A level subjects and a grade A in AS Chemistry. Jake is now reading Mathematics at St Catherine’ College, University of Oxford.

He is now reading Management and Economics at the University of Sheffield.

At Â鶹ÊÓƵshe restarted a two-year course in a new combination of subjects and gained grades AAA in A level Business Studies, Chemistry and Psychology, winning a place to read Psychology at the University of Nottingham.

Nathan Tomlinson won the Â鶹ÊÓƵprize for the best performance by a one-year A level student. Nathan joined Â鶹ÊÓƵas a lower-sixth transfer from King Edward’s School having previously studied the first year of the International Baccalaureate. He took our one-year A level course in Physics, Mathematics, Further Mathematics and Chemistry, achieving grades A*A*A*A and winning a place to read Physics at Imperial College, London.

Daanish joined Â鶹ÊÓƵfrom Bishop Vesey’s Grammar School and at the end of his first year obtained grades AAAA in AS level Biology, Business Studies, Chemistry and Mathematics.Ìý Linh joined Â鶹ÊÓƵhaving previously studied in Vietnam. At the end of her first year she obtained grades AAAA in AS level Government and Politics, Economics, History and Mathematics, achieving 100% in each exam. Kevin joined Â鶹ÊÓƵhaving previously studied in China. At the end of his first year he obtained grades AAAA in AS level Economics, Mathematics, Further Mathematics and Physics.
